Lake Winnie Fishing Report July 18, 2018
Walleye action on the big lake has been good this week. Main lake bars have been producing very well. Fish the bar-tops in 14 feet of water down the slopes to 25 feet. Spinners tipped with crawlers or leeches has been the way to go. Many of the humps north of Bena Bar have been producing well, using the same method. Water temps in the upper 70 degree range means you put some speed on it (your baits). Play the wind so you are working the wind into the drop edge or along it. Fish are setting up into the wind. Several bite windows are occurring during the day. Evenings, you can get out the crank baits and run the tops of the structures till dark and a bit after. Mayflies seem to be on the home stretch. Most areas they are going back down.
Perch action has been good on the west side. Sugar Island north to Big Stoney has areas of fish. Shore drops from 12 to 25 feet have been good. Jigs and minnow are the bait to use. Move around a bit to get into the "eaters." Plenty of 91/2 to 11 inch fish to be had.
Pike have been ok in the weed beds coming off shore. Look from the 8 foot area out to 12 foot. Troll spoons or bigger cranks .
Crappie and sunfish are going well on many smaller lakes around us. Weed edges fished with small leeches or crawler pieces on small jigs are working best. Early or late in the day for best panfishing bite.
