Lake Winni Fishing Report for July 12, 2017

The Walleye bite on Winni is a bit spotty this week. Weather, I believe, has been a big factor as we get a different wind pattern every other day. Water temps are still warming, though has brought in a more summer pattern for the walleyes. Trolling has been the way to go. Long lining spinners, even smaller crank baits are producing walleye catches. Three-way rigs with live bait trolled also is working. Covering water right now is the way to go. Fish are having several bite windows a day but are very short windows. Look to deeper water at times like this. Shore drops from 12 out to the main drop in 25 feet. Same way with the main lake bars. Start on edges in 22 to 30 and work back up on top as active fish will cruise for bait. For evening into dark, the bite gets better as dark approaches. Cranks trolled late is working well in the 8 to 14 foot zone.

Perch bite still going strong around the lake with 9 to 10 inch perch being quite easy to get. Bring plenty of fatheads and sort out your meals. Great for the kids as the fish can be caught while you are watching them have a blast. Fish 5 to 10 feet of water.

Pike are CRAZY RIGHT NOW! As the water warms, they feed many times a day. Spoons and big crank baits are the way to go. Weed beds in the 8 to 12 foot area is the place to look for them. Time to go fishing!
